About Laura
|
|
Laura is a graduate of Childbirth International's doula program, and is currently pursuing midwifery training through The National College of Midwifery. She is trained and certified to perform Neonatal Resuscitation by the American Academy of Pediatrics. As an integral part of her education, Laura is currently engaged in an full-time apprenticeship with two homebirth midwives, and recently finished a 12 month, part-time apprenticeship with another homebirth midwife. She aspires to one day open her own homebirth practice.
Before enrolling at National College, Laura's education in midwifery was (and continues to be) a combination of self-study and study-groups with other student midwives and doulas, as well as empirical education through attendance of births. Laura attends workshops, seminars, and conferences regularly to continue expanding her knowledge of pregnancy and birth. She participates actively in the online community of doulas, midwives, and student midwives through-out the country and around the world.

Other than pregnancy and birth, Laura's interests include hiking, cooking, gardening, photography, concert going, sewing, playing Scrabble, watching movies, and enjoying her family. She looks forward to having children, and benefiting from all the they can teach her. While she waits for her own children, Laura loves to spend time with her youngest friends for whom she babysits regularly. In December 2006, Laura moved to a new home with a new office which she is excited to share with her clients.
